We will start our Fall Season on Tuesday, September 2nd through Saturday, November 1st. Fall season will be held at the Boathouse , depending on water and weather conditions, we may still need to train indoors on some days at the Fitness Center.
The regatta schedule features head races, which are longer endurance events typically ranging from 3,000 to 6,000 meters. Unlike spring sprints, competitors start at intervals and race against the clock, navigating winding courses with a focus on strategy, pacing, and steering. The fall season showcases rowing’s technical precision and endurance.

Parent Volunteering
Parents, the club won’t run with out you! The club is run and maintained by volunteers. We need help daily and particularly during our on-the water competitive seasons. Please monitor your email and this website for information on sign-up opportunities. Below are descriptions of our seasonal volunteer needs. More details can be found on the Volunteer page.
- All parents are expected to sign up for one Fall season “Job”: General Volunteer Descriptions.
- All families are expected to assist with Path Patrol Duties.
- Each regatta will have its own sign up sheet for volunteer needs. At a minimum families need to assist with at least one regatta a season.
Safety Procedures and Practice Notes
- Please contact your coach in advance if you will be missing practice for any reason.
- Always wear or bring sneakers
- Always have socks
- Do not wear loose clothing that can get stuck in seat slides.
- Have layers ready for cooler temps (you may start off in a tank top and need another layer as the sun goes down and the temps cool off)
- If rain is forecast, bring rain gear
- IT IS ATHLETE’S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE PREPARED FOR VARIABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS
Swim Test Requirements
All rowers are required to pass a Fairport Crew Club swim test prior to joining the team. While multiple water safety measures are in place for rowers during practices and regattas, rowers do not wear life jackets while rowing and therefore must demonstrate a certain level of swimming proficiency to participate in water activities. Fairport Crew Club will organize a swim test prior to each season and will notify any rowers (and their families) who still need to show proof of proficiency. Once a rower passes the Fairport Crew Club swim test that requirement is considered satisfied for all future rowing seasons. Rowers who have demonstrated swimming proficiency through other methods and have proof of such proficiency (official documentation) can submit those documents for consideration (e.g. life guard certification).
Attendance
Crew practice is not optional; athletes are expected to be at all practices except if there is an illness, a school activity or religious reason. Too much homework is not a legitimate excuse; athletes must manage their time wisely. Please notify your coaches as far in advance as possible if you must miss a practice
