         2008 New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships

 

Information for Fairport Crew Club Members and their Parents

The 12th annual New York State Scholastic Rowing Championship Regatta will be held on May 10th & 11th (Saturday & Sunday), on Fish Creek, Saratoga Springs, NY. The Scholastic events and the Club events will be run over both days. Petite Finals are run on Saturday and the Novice events (Scholastic and Club) have been combined. All Finals will be run on Sunday.

 

Who Participates?:  All novice and varsity rowers. Coaches will be setting boats prior to this event and certain rowers may be designated as “spares”. The coaches are committed to rowing as many eligible members as possible but boat participation will be based upon event times, equipment availability, and having the right number of rowers to fill boats.

 

Transportation: Two buses have been reserved to transport FCC Members for the weekend. All members of the club are expected to ride the bus. The bus will pick the rowers up at the boathouse on

May 9th, 2008 at 3:30, and return to the boathouse Sunday evening, May 11th.

 

Rower Housing: All FCC members are required to complete the registration form and return as per the instructions on the form. Rowers will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in rooms with other rowers.  Rooms will be assigned to rowers in advance; a sign-up sheet will be available at practice.  Rower and parent chaperone rooms will be grouped as close together as possible.

 

Parent Housing: A limited number of hotel rooms are being held for parents on a first-come, first-served basis April 25th, 2008  at the Holiday Inn Express Turf on Western Avenue located at 1442 Western Avenue in Albany, NY 12203 (518) 438-0001. Our discounted rate for the hotel is $ 109.00 + 13% tax. Please refer to the Holiday Inn information sheet for additional details.  If all hotel rooms have been reserved and you wish to be close to the Holiday Inn Express it is suggested that you book rooms in the Colonie, NY area along Wolf Road, Washington Avenue or Western Avenue.

 

Cost:               Each Member: $67 Hotel, $73 Bus, $10 Food, $20 FCC costs = $170 TOTAL

 

Regattas are not considered fundraisers and all fees collected go to cover the cost of the event.

Costs are based on 3-4 rowers per room, rental of a meeting room, and coach sleeping rooms.  All parents, guests and relatives are required to contribute to cover the cost of food if they plan on eating with the group. If you intend to have guests attend please indicate this on the registration form (part 2). Payments for unexpected guests can be made at the event.

 

Cash or checks made payable to Fairport Crew Club are due by April 24th, 2008.  Please plan on attending the mandatory parent meeting on April 24th, 2008 at 6:30 pm.  Please bring all forms and money with you.

 

All payments must be received prior to departure; please contact Steve Meeske, club treasurer if you need to make alternate payment arrangements. Rowers are responsible for all incidental costs (phone, room service, Nintendo, etc.) and any extra food purchased on-site. Rowers will be held financially responsible for any damage they cause to the hotel.

 

Food: Food will be provided to the rowers Friday night and the full day on Saturday and Sunday.  This includes water, Gatorade, protein bars etc.  Parents are expected to assist with set up, food preparation, and clean up of eating area at the event.

Conduct: Rowers are reminded that proper behavior is required at all times during the trip.

The hotel has the right to evict the occupants of any room where the occupants are exhibiting disruptive behavior. The code of conduct forms have been given to and signed by each club member; it is expected that the members act appropriately. Designated chaperones will travel with the team to assist the coach with supervision of the rowers.

 

Directions to Regatta from Hotel: Take I-87 North to Exit 14. Take a left at the exit ramp onto route 9P East toward Saratoga Lake. Continue over the bridge that crosses the racecourse.  Turn left just after the bridge into the NYS Boat Launch Site.

 

Parking/Facilities at Race Site: Very limited parking will be available at an on-site lot for a fee. At the regatta last year, this cost was $10.00/per car. Additional off-site parking is available; please note that cars parked illegally along the roads into the park are ticketed. It is recommended that you carefully review all signage if not parking in the paid lot. Portable toilets are the only toilet facilities available at the regatta site. Rowers should come prepared with tissues/toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

A group rate of $109.00 has been established at the Holiday Inn Express-Turf on Western Avenue for the Fairport Crew Club on May 9th and 10th, 2008 for the New York State Scholastic Rowing Championship Race to be held on May10th and May 11th, 2008.

 

Rooms must be guaranteed with a credit card or purchase order. Please call 518-438-0001 or 888-651-0040 to make your reservations. Be sure to ask for the Fairport Crew Club – Block Code “Fairport”. Please call by April 25th to reserve your room, as the rate will no longer be available after this date.  There are a limited number of rooms available.

 

Credit Policy:

 

All guests must establish credit upon check in. Approved methods of credit are presentation of a major charge card or a $100.00 deposit, which is refunded at check out.

From the NYS Thruway: (I-87 N or I-90 E) - Take Thruway Exit 24. After the tollbooths bear

right and follow signs for Exit 1S (Rt. 20/Western Ave). Take exit 1S from toll plaza and Merge

onto Highway. Keep left until you reach traffic light at the end of the highway. Turn Left onto

Western Avenue (Rt. 20 East) Hotel is located approximately 1/2 mile on the RIGHT. (1442

From the Adirondack Northway: (I-87 S) - Follow I-87 S to Albany. Keep left and follow the

Thanks for helping our food committee plan for the cost and amount of food needed for this regatta!  Please complete the following form, submit it with your Saratoga Regatta registration form.  Please remember to combine the total cost from section 1 with this section 2. 

The cost of participating in the FCC food program is 15$ per person, or $40 per family, for Saturday.

The cost of participating on Sunday (only two meals) is 10$ per person, or $25 per family.

There is no charge for the rowers as this was covered in their registration costs.

We offer  hot meals, coffee, hot chocolate, drink  items throughout the day.
