Policies

All rowers:

No member will be allowed on the water until the signed (by member and parent) current Release of Liability and Code of Conduct forms have been received. Members showing up for their first day without the forms will be asked to return on another day or to call to have a parent come to the boathouse to sign.

The Code of Conduct form now includes an emergency medical treatment authorization and swimming certification and is valid throughout the rower's membership in FCC. Members are reminded that the previously-signed forms do not have an expiration date.

If you have have questions, please contact Eileen Johnson via email.

Policies

  1. Dues must be paid prior to getting on the water.
  2. Members of FCC are in 9th through 12th grades inclusive. Crew at a younger age is generally considered unsafe for the child's joints. Contact FCC President, Bruce Weick, to discuss this if more information is needed.
  3. Youth may apply for membership at the start of the fall season after completing a Learn to Row course or at the start of the winter conditioning program. Traditionally, the fall season starts at the end of August and the winter conditioning program starts in February.
  4. Membership in Fairport Crew is not based on the ability to pay dues. Financial assistance is available. Email us at bruceweick@hotmail.com for details. Put "membership" in the subject line.
  5. At times, FCC must limit the enrollment of new members due to equipment and facility restraints. Such limitations are at the discretion of the Fairport Crew Club and can change from year to year as our program grows.
  6. All athletes are required to read and sign an Athletes Code of Conduct before participating in club activities. Rowers and parents are required to follow the rules of our Boathouse as listed in the Code of Conduct.
  7. To join FCC, a membership application form, a liability waiver and a medical/emergency treatment form must be completed and signed before a rower will be allowed into a boat. The liability waiver and medical/emergency treatment form are valid for the calendar year. See the current season, above, for the forms.
  8. In addition to the forms in Items 5 thru 7 above, the FCC applicant must provide a copy of a Red Cross or equivalent swimming card, if the rower has one, or the applicant's parents/guardians must sign a Swimming Proficiency Statement and return to it FCC staff before members can participate in FCC activities on water. In general, this is a one-time form. However, the coaches and officers of FCC reserve the right to require members to periodically demonstrate swimming proficiency.
  9. We practice and race in all kinds of weather with the exception of thunderstorms. Practice is continued in the boathouse during thunderstorms. However, if the Fairport Schools are closed or have canceled after-school and evening activities due to snow, then FCC activities will also be cancelled. While every effort is made to give as much advance notice as possible about cancellations, sometimes short notice is unavoidable. Notice of cancellations will be made on this website and sent on the list-servs. Rowers and parents are encouraged to call the FCC boathouse (585 - 377-2458) for confirmation of a cancellation.
  10. Rowers are expected to attend all practices, especially prior to a race. If a practice or race must be missed, the rower is responsible for finding a substitute. If a sub is not found, realize that none of the other rowers in that boat will be able to practice or race.
  11. It is FCC policy to stress safety above all else.
