Two Fairport Crew boats achieve Top 20 finishes

at club's first Head of the Schuylkill

Fairport Crew's Mike Bannister takes silver in the Master's Singles category

(PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 29, 2005) -- Fairport Crew Club's first trip to the Thomas Eakins Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia on Oct. 29 resulted
in Top 20 finishes for two varsity crews. Sculler
Mike Bannister also won a silver medal in the master's category.

Fairport's Varsity Girls 4 placed 14th of 48, the highest among Rochester-area clubs in the Women's Scholastic Fours with Cox category. The crew --
cox Kirsten Orsini, stroke Kit Meyers, Carrie Bennett, Courtney Coms and bow Laura Pentoney - finished in a time of 16:28.47 on the
3,800-meter Schuylkill River course at Fairmount Park, home of Philadelphia's historic Boathouse Row. Nearly 2,300 boats competed in what organizers
bill as the world's largest one-day regatta, on a day that turned bright but remained brisk.

"Our set and time were our best ever," Orsini said. "Our power was good, and we kept gaining distance until we trailed the boat ahead of us by only one
boat length."

Fairport's Varsity Boys 8A boat -
cox Eric Wendt, stroke Matt Scanlon, Cameron Staunch, Jethro Van't Hul, Adriel Colon, Dan Mills,
John Steele, Mike Roche and bow Bryce Lednar
-- also had an impressive finish, placing 20th of 95. They also outrowed all Rochester-area clubs in
their category, the Men's Scholastic Eights with Cox, finishing just 4 seconds ahead of McQuaid Jesuit High School's crew. Fairport's time of 13:17.23 was
only 51 seconds behind that of the gold medalist, Hawk Rowing.

In the same category, Fairport's Varsity Boys 8B boat placed 54th. With
cox Jon Schmidt, stroke Max Swagler, Brian Dominiak, Ulyses Colon,
Clint Dunham, Mark Letteney, Greg Wright, Andrew Lacek and bow Tim Bryk
- finished in 14:06.82. The Fairport Boys 8B topped one Brighton
boat and two Pittsford entries, but finished behind McQuaid and another Pittsford boat.

Earlier in the day, Fairport Crew Club's
Mike Bannister, rowing in the Men's Masters Singles (Ages 40-49) category, placed 2nd among 37 entries,
with a time of 15:31.25. He edged out the third-place finisher by less than 2 seconds.

Fairport's Varsity Girls 8A --
cox Sara Lim, stroke Amy Schmitt, Jill Jacobs, Jenna D'Angelo, Christina Lawless, Lydia Wilson, Katie Fluharty,
Christina Posella and Natalie Dudek
- finished 50th in a field of 83 in the Women's Scholastic Eights category. With a time of 15:50, the Varsity
Girls 8A finished behind one Brighton and three Pittsford boats, but only 1:43 minutes behind the winner, Detroit Boat Club.

In the same category, Fairport's Varsity Girls 8B --
cox Janelle Snow, stroke Liz Baker, Lara Ericson, Allison Lenzi, Ashley Brombacher,
Aoife Kilmartin, Meaghan Sloand, Laura Eble and bow Anjali Parthasarathi
, who stepped in at the last moment for an ailing Kate Glenn
- posted a time of 17:15.89 to finish 77th.

"I was very proud of how our rowers prepared and executed their plans," said Coach Lee Frost. "They always strive to do their best."

Fairport Crew's
Caitlyn Bannister moonlighted as coxswain for the Syracuse Chargers' entry in the Masters Club Eights (Ages 40-49), finishing
10th of 11 entries with a time of 14:09.16.

Graduates of Fairport Crew also competed at the Schuylkill - Allison Schirmuhly rowed for Carnegie Mellon University, Colleen Gillette rowed for Rochester Institute of Technology, and Emily Wendt coxed for
University of Buffalo.

Fairport Crew will close out its fall regatta season on Nov. 6 at the Eighth Annual Pull the Plug event, sponsored by Pittsford Crew Club. This
scholastic 4000-meter head race, set for 10 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m., marks the closing of the historic Erie Canal.
