This page contains details for FCC members, their families and club boosters.
Details for the Saturday, April 26th scrimmage with Liverpool HS at the Syracuse Chargers' boathouse, per Coach Frost and the Food Committee, are:
Plan to arrive at the Chargers' boathouse by 10 AM sharp. Directions to the boathouse are available on our Maps & Directions page
(see Spring Locations -
Baldwinsville & Syracuse University boathouses, also
Syracuse Chargers Invitational Regatta). Plan on a 90 minute drive
(leave Fairport by 8:30 a.m.).
Upon arrival we will unload our boats and rig. We will have access to Liverpool's motor launch and FCC coaches will have approximately 90 minutes of time to work with our rowers.
For this event, there will be no breakfast served or food and snacks for “grazing” as we have had with other events. So please make sure your rower has a substantial breakfast and, if needed, a snack for midmorning.
At noon, the Liverpool rowers will arrive. We will have about an hour of scrimmage time with the team. Details of the exact format will be arranged, but this is quite informal. We have the option of doing racing starts or building pressure to start line. Liverpool has a complete team such as ours so all classes will be included.
There will be water and Gatorade available all day for the rowers.
At the conclusion of the scrimmage around 1 p.m., our rowers have been invited join with the Liverpool team in a picnic featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, green salad, pasta salad, fruit, chips, assorted desserts. Parents are, of course, welcome and encouraged to enjoy lunch for a $5 donation to help cover the cost of the meal.
We should be on our way back to Fairport by about 2 pm, where we will proceed to our boathouse for unloading of the trailer. Rigging could be left for regular practice or done on Saturday.
We will be on the larger Onodaga Lake, which will considerably cooler than the channel or our canal.
Rowers, please bring your water bottle and dress appropriately.
A suggested list of gear would include, a hat, non-cotton top and bottom, windbreaker, pogies,
rain gear (including water-proof shoes), sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm.
Parents should also be prepared. Binoculars would be a really good thing to bring, as well as a folding chair.
The 2008 New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships (aka States) will be held May 10 and 11 in the Saratoga Springs area. This event is hosted by Saratoga Rowing Association. An event schedule is available.

A lot of stuff was left at the pool after the swim
tests: t shirts, towels, jackets, shorts, uniform top,
etc. We picked them up and they are at the fitness
center near the entrance. Pick them up by Tues or ....
Thanks to the parents and one rower who came to the
fitness center on Saturday to clean. The place looks
great and all of the rowers will benefit from your hard
work.
Thank you to all the helpers who came to the boathouse
Sunday afternoon to help put in the dock. The job seemed
easy with so many helpers. Special thanks to Mr. Drew Bayley for getting us all set with the dock and to Mr.
DeLong for his inspiration.
To keep the boathouse clean, there is a
"Lost 'n' Found Clear Out" every 15th and 30th
of every month. All items left in the cubbies, Lost and
Found, or found on the boathouse floor will be donated
to the Salvation Army or Volunteers of America. This
will be posted on the cubbies as a reminder.
Our volunteer coordinator,
Jill Nichols,
is happy to match volunteers with jobs. We need our parents' help
to keep our rowing program going!
Our Volunteering page has information about some of our
needs.
At our February 7th parent/rower meeting, we met our
new Novice Girls Coach, D Seaver.
Coaches for the winter conditioning 2008 season can be found on our
Coaches page.
Our coaches disseminate information
about practices, equipment, training, expectations, boat
line-ups etc. via our list-serv email group and through discussions and handouts at practices and regattas.
You or your rower must be a registered member in good
standing in order to join our list-serv. See our List-serv
page for details.
We ask that our members' parents subscribe to the list-serv, support and assist at our fundraisers, take a
turn or two on our Path Patrol during each season so coaches can focus on teaching, assist with
feeding the members at regattas and to volunteer as new opportunities are identified.
We ask that each parent do at least one thing for the
club each season, in addition to providing food for
regattas.
We need your help to keep the club moving forward.
Traditionally, money collected from cans and bottles receipts has been used to help cover the cost of fuel
for the launches used by the coaches
during on-the-water practices. The club has designated
the EZ Bottle and Can (http://www.ezreturn.org/) location at 1259 Fairport Road
(between Jefferson Rd. and the railroad overpass, opposite Dryclean Express) as our new drop-off point.
See our Fundraising page for details.
